After being tipped off by a friend, my boyfriend and I decided to try Casalinga, an Italian restaurant on Capital Blvd.
We started off with the calamari appetizer. They were lightly battered and extremely tender, served with a marinara sauce. Very good, although on the pricey side at $11.99. They also brought out an assortment of bread, an Italian bread and two types of garlic bread - garlic knots and one with a tomatoey paste on top. Both very tasty.
For entrees, I got one of the specials - gnocchi in pink tomato cream sauce. I took one bite and was shoving it in my boyfriend's face, telling him he had to try it. Wow. This is one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a very long time. The gnocchi were so smooth and creamy, they melted in my mouth. My boyfriend was slowly eating his Mussels Bianco (green lipped mussels over linguine) and not saying much. After eating his second mussel, he decided to send it back. He said the mussels were way overcooked and the pasta only tasted of oil. The waiter was very accommodating, and let him order something else. While we waited for his cheese ravioli to come out, we both happily grazed on my gnocchi dish. He was as impressed with the gnocchi as I was.
Despite having to return a dish, the rest of the food and service were enough to guarantee another visit.
