In my short 3 decades, I've lived for extended periods in 5 cities. I spent 3 of those years in A2. By far the worst restaurant quality has been Ann Arbor. As a rule - overpriced and uninspired. My theory is that the restaurants there cater to the large student clientele - kids willing to freely spend their parent's money and their loans, and not having the most developed of pallets at that age.
There were, of course, limited exceptions. Zanzibar always prepared unique fare, and their brunch was good. Al Noor in Ypsilanti had a great Mediterranean/Greek selection. And the hot dog vendor on South University was a staple of mine.
The biggest dissappointment was the famed Zingerman's. Perhaps the most overrated and overpriced sandwich I've ever had. I know people rave about this place, but I just don't get it.
My two cents. Rant over.
