Crossing the Border

Poutine (for those who aren’t familiar) is a favorite French Canadian fast-food snack consisting of french fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds. It’s now cropping up on more and more American menus, and I had it recently while sitting at a big communal table at Smith in Seattle (Smith opened in June and is the latest restaurant-bar from Seattle notable Linda Derschang). The Chowhounds are split on Smith, but I found its poutine to be a great bar food—hot, greasy, with squeaky cheese curds.
