Roadhouse Barbeque to replace Vinny T's
The Brookline TAB reports that Vinny T's in Washington Square, that venerable shrine to quantity over quality, is to be replaced by a restaurant to be called the Roadhouse Barbecue. The new owners are the couple who own the nearby Publick House. If they can do for 'cue what they do for beer, this could be very good news!

Yeah, I was talking to one of the employees at the new Publick House Market next door, and they're anticipating an open in early summer. I really love the paint job they've given the whole building.

Yes, it was Walter's. Said it was a wine bar and restaurant as I remember. Ye Olde Brookline, gone with the wind, like Papillon near Harvard, Alden-Merrill (which itself replaced Steve's Hardware) and even Erewhon in the Village.

Yes, and they had a peanut butter snickers-type cake/pie that was deadly good.
I'm looking forward to trying Roadhouse BBQ to see what kind of "style" it is (Memphis, Texas, etc.)

Or Veronique when it was in Coolidge Corner where the ten-buck wine store is now. That was my go-to first date venue for years!

....and before it was Walter's it was Novak's, I think. I used to go to Walter's all the time with my grandparents. It was that sort of place. I think it is stretching it to call Walter's a wine bar, though. It definitely had that old-school, "continental" 1970s feel.

YES!
I lived across the street when I was in school. We took a friend out for dinner there to celebrate a big accomplishment and just by walking in lowered the average age of the patrons by 50 years.
Reminded me of a nicer Browns.
Recall also the bagel place near Alden-Merrill as well as the Szechwan place that burned down in what is now the Star market's parking lot.
