New hip places in LA?

I have 2 foodies celebrating their 45th birthdays this weekend. Any new hip and fun restaurants in the LA, WestHo, or general vicinity anyone can recommend??
Any category and price....

  1. so glad you asked...since restaurants come and go and there's always new and newer....! I was going to ask that one too!

    1. The Hall at Palihouse is new, hip, and highly recommended... WeHo, near Santa Monica and La Cienega.

      1. Would highly recommend Citrus

        1. Citrus and the Hall are good suggestions, possibly STK; I would definitely avoid Nobu & Beso, both seemed to be a hit-and-miss with food and service.

Finish it all up with coffee & desserts @ the officially opened LA Mill :)

          1. What timing with your question! There's a big feature in today's USA TODAY about new celeb-friendly restaurants in LA. The piece focuses on Beso, STK, Foxtail and Bond St.
            http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2...

Other ones not mentioned in the piece but to considered for new and hip restaurants would be COMME CA, BLT STEAK, NOBU and THE PALIHOUSE BRASSERIE.

            1. I've had dinner at the Palihouse in West Hollywood and it's definitely not a see and be seen place. It's quaint and rustic and a bit on the boring and cheap side. Not bad but certainly not equal to STK, Comme Ca, Nobu or anything in that range. It's more like a quick dinner at an OK casual place.

              1. I'm looking for the exact same list of recommendations - based on the list here I just booked rez at STK, it looks amazing. http://www.stkhouse.com/

                1. re: yoginla

It's a great bar scene for sure. The food is not extraordinary but if you're looking for a fun night out in a very hip and happening place, you can't go wrong with STK.

                  1. re: yoginla

I loved STK. I thought my steak was cooked perfectly and the appetizers amazing. the potato sides were just eh but the creamed spinach was great. the desserts I'd skip but all in all it was a great meal and I'd go back for sure.

                    1. re: omgirlie

Agree with you omgirlie! Had a really delicious meal there last night. I don't eat red meat so filled up on the starters and sides - sweet corn pudding, scallops, truffle fries, goat cheese salad, tuna tartare. My friends loved their steaks. The Beckhams were there last night as well so good chance of seeing a celeb. It was packed.

                      1. re: omgirlie

OMGirlie - I just made rez at STK - I love the idea of having dessert and coffee elsewhere - where would you recommend?

                        1. re: yoginla

                          AquaW suggested LA Mill :-)

                          1. re: kelvlam

I looked at the website and it looks nice, but I can't get a sense whether it's a restaurant or coffee bar? What do you like about it?

                            1. re: yoginla

You can see Eater LA and LA Weekly's review about it.
                              http://la.eater.com/archives/2008/03/...

The place is definitely hip, and I can assure you it's not just-another-coffee-bar. You will have a fresh unique experience there :-)

                              1. re: kelvlam

Definitely looks very interesting. I'll have to check it out very soon.

                              2. re: yoginla

One of the prior threads about LA Mill: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/481743

                      2. Might I suggest Katsuya. 6300 Hollywood Blvd. Right across from where "Wicked" is playing. Great food and service and fairly priced.Beautiful room and people all abuz. Check out their website. Maybe tell us what's your idea of "fun?"

                          Very nice decor...

                        2. I think BLT over STK for foodies.

                          1. re: foodmarathon

What about the ambiance at BLT? What's that like?

                            1. re: foodmarathon

Is Cut outta the OP's area of consideration? Cause I'll say Cut trumps over BLT and STK :-)

It's so weird... all these 3-character name steakhouses... hehehe

                              1. re: kelvlam

Cut is certainly the better foodwise over both BLT and STK but I'm not sure if it's hip or chic. It's Bev Hills and not Sunset or Lacienega. Between BLT and STK, STK has the better "scene" and bar scene in general while BLT skews a bit older (during the earlier hours) but I liked the food better. So many good steak choices all of a sudden. I'm in nirvana.
