Just walked in the door, and I'm right there with ya, first time seeing this show. I see they are repeating it at midnight.
Happy Holiday's to all!

If you two like the show there is a companion book that is excellent. Much better at telling the stories.

Four episodes? That's not much of a marathon.

no...4 episodes are not much of a marathon at all.
and at 9pm on Christmas day...when most of us were exhausted and heading to bed since we had to work the next day!
yea...i was bitter I didn't stay up to watch it.

Caught a couple episodes. I'd actually avoided his show(s) up until now, because the only clips I'd ever seen as promos showed him eating stuff I consider to be unappetizing and I'd gotten the impression that this was a gross-out show.
Boy am I glad I tuned in. Some of what he eats is still gross (to me) but he's very intelligent and his commentary is very entertaining. I particularly enjoyed when he went to Portugal.

Were these shows produced separately or are they possibly excerpted from Bourdain's No Reservations shows which air in SoCal on the Travel Channel? I have a feeling I may be on overload but a caught one of the Cooks Tour shows and it seemed exactly like one of the others. Same or just same idea?

Ya, ACT begat NR. NR is able to delve a little deeper into the culture of the places AB visits since it's an extra 30 minutes.

The series "A Cook's Tour" preceded "No Reservations". Anthony Bourdain started on Food Network and may have been dropped due to Anthony belittling the other Food Network chefs, such as Emeril and Rachel Ray. For more check out http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_...

Enjoyed the episodes! Different. I like No Reservations much better.
I own the book, A Cook's Tour, as well as many more of his books. It's great with lots of detail. Highly recommend all of Bourdain's books.

Sweet! I have the entire A Cook's Tour series that I found on the internet a few years ago. But its great to have it in better quality video to watch. Also have the audio book, which is read by Bourdain and expands.
BEST episodes are:
England Episode with Gordon Ramsey and Fergus Henderson
French Laundry Tasting Menu epsisode with Scott Bryan, Eric Ripert and Michael Ruhlman
Brazil episode with Fabio (that host...he died in a car crash after the episode, sadly)
The "Getting Lost" episode in Thailand
and the one in Vietnam where he transverses the Mekong River with Phillipe LeJune.
Overall, this series blows No Reservations out of the water. Dunno, I find it more food based and less culture based. Less slapstick too.
