Searching for French Restaurant Serving Christmas Goose Dinner
Hi all...
My father in law wants to take the family out for a Christmas dinner in the city the weekend before Christmas. All he requested is that I find a restaurant that serves goose. My husband and I are fairly new to the bay area so we don't know many restaurants yet. I searched the message boards and found that most were focused on goose that is served in Chinese restaurants, and that's not the setting we are looking for. We were thinking more French. Any suggestions?

ya i dont know and dont see anything on google ... tell your husband that was a pretty good idea but you cant make san francisco into being something that its not. anyway if there was a place that served french christmas goose dinners, oh it would cost so much, like $$$$$.

If you're willing to move east culinarily across the Rhine to Germany, two places have been reported to serve goose around Christmas time. You might give them a call to see what the plan is this year, and please let us know what you find out.

Too late for 07, but some years ago I distinctly remember Walzwerk having it as a special as well.

Last time we were at Walzwerk (about 6 weeks ago) I swore I wouldn't go again. The food was really bad (and I've liked the place in the past) -- tough soggy schnitzl, leaden mashed potatos. Yuck.

You might also contact a good restaurant and ask if they can special-order and prepare a goose for you. Maybe something like Big Four (they work with a lot of game and exotic meats).

I had goose twice in 4 days in Vienna at the end of November, both times with delicious potato dumplings. According to Sturmi on the international board, it is the traditional dish for St. Martin's day which if I remember correctly is the 11th of November and hard to find after that. But in Vienna it must have been ganseklein as they serve a 1/4 goose. When I looked at geese here they were 11 -13 pounds and frozen. Anyone know where to buy a young and never frozen goose in the bay area? And thanks for the restaurant suggestions.
