Meadowood 2-Star Chef gone in an instant

Yesterday, I read that Joseph Humphrey is leaving Meadowood. This is the chef responsible for bringing The Restaurant at Meadowood out of dormancy and catapulting it into 2-star Michelin status.

It will be difficult to replace Humphrey, and sadly, my guess is that the food at The Restaurant will dramatically decline once he's gone, in January, 2008. It was such a short ride.

There has to be a story behind this story. Certainly, he's been offered a good deal of money by Passport Resorts to be the chef at a new restaurant called Murray Circle, at Cavallo Point: The Lodge at Golden Gate. But I wonder what else is going on behind the scenes, something that made him leave Meadowood so quickly.
