report: XYZ: brunch in SOMA

I went to XYZ, the restaurant in the W hotel in SOMA, for brunch on Saturday. I tried the "fresh donut holes with orange blossom honey & meyer lemon curd" (see photo) and the croque-madame.

The donut holes were a let-down: too dense and ordinary. They did not provide the "wow this is a fresh donut" experience that I was expecting.

The croque-madame was ok. I think it had too many onions, and the gruyère wasn't quite browned enough.

  1. XYZ at least has been consistant over the years ... consistently medicre for big bucks. Thanks for the update.

Previous XYZ reports ... seems like DAT might be the best time to go.

My XYZ dinner during DAT earlier this year was stunning--and I'm not being sarcastic. I really didn't much expectation walking in, and the food, decor, and service were all great. If my memory serves me well, the dinner had 4 instead of DAT's usual three courses.
