    looking forward to your review.......

So who;s gonna do the honors of being the first NY transplant to declare that, despite their most sincere efforts, their pizza is still a lame excuse for real NY pizza? :)

      LOL

    2. Thank YOU! You just made everyone's day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Well, Eater L.A. is saying Wednesday ...

        1. re: maxzook

i can only tell you what the voice on the other end of the phone told me. maybe the 'soft opening' is tonight.

          1. re: NYCnowLA

            YAY!!!!!!!!

        2. When I called last Wednesday I was told that they would be opening in two days and were just waiting on the health inspector - so while I hope what you heard is true it may still be a little while.

          1. OH MY GOD A TALKING PIZZA RUN AWAY!!!!

            *giggle*

Let us know how it is.

            1. They've moved their estimated opening date back to Friday. And even that is uncertain (depends on the inspector). A precise quote is, "I really hope we're open by Friday."

And the fellow I spoke with had that special blend of amusement and desparation that comes with fielding his fiftieth call about their opening in an hour.

:-) that's a great line Moo. I can just picture it..

              2. Where is this place, and what's the big deal?

                1. re: sweetiepie

Where? by Frankie and Johnnies/Santa Monica place

Big deal? OMG, haven't you read the seventy million threads by new yorker's whining, oops I mean speaking movingly, about the the state of pizza in this area?! (ducking and running :-)

Oh and it's a branch of a famous NYC pizza parlor

                2. I ended my work day in Santa Monica today, so like a big dork, I hustle over to see if it's open yet. It's not. The guy on the phone said Friday, maybe Saturday.

                  Open already, dammit.

                  1. Their website says Sat. 11/10. Never been to Joe's in NYC. What to order?

                    1. re: fdb

Pizza. With normal, non-weird toppings, like pepperoni, or sausage, or mushrooms.

                        "normal, non-weird toppings"

I wonder what the reaction would be if Joe's offered pineapple, bottarga and lamb sausage.

                      2. re: fdb

To start, two cheese slices, one with processed mozzarella, the other with fresh, both well done (i.e., extra crispy).

                      3. Is this a branch of the Joe's Pizza that used to be at Bleecker and 6th?

Out in Eagle Rock, I just had a slice of pizza that rivalled Joe's (full story in my other post).

I don't know at what point I died and entered pizza heaven, but I hope their LA branch is as good as the old NYC branch!

                        1. re: Detroit Slim

Carmine St. to be exact, but yeah, it's the same place.

I was always more of a Ray's Famous guy, myself.

                          1. re: maxzook

bumpity. is it today or t'row? i don't wanna drive 22 miles only to stare at a picture of a slice of NYC pizza... that'd just really break me after a week of crappy DJIA...

                            1. re: TonyC

its so unpredictable. i think now it's saturday or sunday. you should wait until next week to avoid disappointment!

                              1. re: TonyC

Saturday, if this is to be believed:

(IMPORTANT: the address showing below is wrong, I fixed in on the place page -- 111 Broadway)

                                2. re: TonyC

I was just in their neck of the woods and I rolled past. They are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to open today. Hopefully tomorrow, but it's still an open question.

                                  1. re: Moomin

actually they did open today at 7 pm.

I had a few slices and I was not awed by them. They weren't bad, the crust was crisp and thin, but the taste was not exceptional. Of course they are just warming up the ovens so I won't judge them yet. The Mozzarella pie did not look the same as the ones in NY. I will try again next week and report back. I bet that some others here will probably have voiced their opinion by then as well.

Wow, really? The place was still boarded, locked, and totally vacant at 4:00. They weren't even picking up the phone inside. I'm impressed that they got the doors open!

                                      1. re: Moomin

it looked open today, i passed by a couples times but couldn't seem to find a darn parking space oh, well, and if they're really open until 3am, it will be awesome.

                                        1. re: kevin

They're open! We had two pies yesterday, fresh mozzarella, sauce, basil and another w/ sausage & pepperoni, they were fine,
godd enuf to eat!!! Expensive/Yes....those two pies were cost us $42.00, would certainly order 'em again. A drizzle of my finest EVO on the outer edge of crust helped.
