They are trying to open by tonight! They are just waiting on the heath inspector. Yippie!

So who;s gonna do the honors of being the first NY transplant to declare that, despite their most sincere efforts, their pizza is still a lame excuse for real NY pizza? :)

When I called last Wednesday I was told that they would be opening in two days and were just waiting on the health inspector - so while I hope what you heard is true it may still be a little while.

OH MY GOD A TALKING PIZZA RUN AWAY!!!!
*giggle*
Let us know how it is.

They've moved their estimated opening date back to Friday. And even that is uncertain (depends on the inspector). A precise quote is, "I really hope we're open by Friday."
And the fellow I spoke with had that special blend of amusement and desparation that comes with fielding his fiftieth call about their opening in an hour.

Where? by Frankie and Johnnies/Santa Monica place
Big deal? OMG, haven't you read the seventy million threads by new yorker's whining, oops I mean speaking movingly, about the the state of pizza in this area?! (ducking and running :-)
Oh and it's a branch of a famous NYC pizza parlor

I ended my work day in Santa Monica today, so like a big dork, I hustle over to see if it's open yet. It's not. The guy on the phone said Friday, maybe Saturday.
Open already, dammit.

Their website says Sat. 11/10. Never been to Joe's in NYC. What to order?

Pizza. With normal, non-weird toppings, like pepperoni, or sausage, or mushrooms.

"normal, non-weird toppings"
I wonder what the reaction would be if Joe's offered pineapple, bottarga and lamb sausage.

To start, two cheese slices, one with processed mozzarella, the other with fresh, both well done (i.e., extra crispy).

Is this a branch of the Joe's Pizza that used to be at Bleecker and 6th?
Out in Eagle Rock, I just had a slice of pizza that rivalled Joe's (full story in my other post).
I don't know at what point I died and entered pizza heaven, but I hope their LA branch is as good as the old NYC branch!

Carmine St. to be exact, but yeah, it's the same place.
I was always more of a Ray's Famous guy, myself.

I was just in their neck of the woods and I rolled past. They are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to open today. Hopefully tomorrow, but it's still an open question.

actually they did open today at 7 pm.
I had a few slices and I was not awed by them. They weren't bad, the crust was crisp and thin, but the taste was not exceptional. Of course they are just warming up the ovens so I won't judge them yet. The Mozzarella pie did not look the same as the ones in NY. I will try again next week and report back. I bet that some others here will probably have voiced their opinion by then as well.

Wow, really? The place was still boarded, locked, and totally vacant at 4:00. They weren't even picking up the phone inside. I'm impressed that they got the doors open!

it looked open today, i passed by a couples times but couldn't seem to find a darn parking space oh, well, and if they're really open until 3am, it will be awesome.

They're open! We had two pies yesterday, fresh mozzarella, sauce, basil and another w/ sausage & pepperoni, they were fine,
godd enuf to eat!!! Expensive/Yes....those two pies were cost us $42.00, would certainly order 'em again. A drizzle of my finest EVO on the outer edge of crust helped.
