Christmas - brunch or dinner
Our family is coming to spend Christmas in NY and I've been reading the Board here for suggestions. Most all the posts are old - dating back to the 2006 Christmas. Could you please make some suggestions for a very nice Brunch or Dinner - it happens to be one member's birthday on Christmas too!
Most of the prior posts suggest Chinese or Jewish - which are fine but not quite what we're looking for. More in the mood for American-ish cuisine. But, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!

Obviously, you like to plan ahead! lol Seriously, though, since we haven't even gotten to Labor Day, it's really way too early to know exactly which better restaurants will be serving Christmas Day dinner. One thing I do know is that Danny Meyer traditionally closes all his restaurants on Christmas Day. So that would eliminate Eleven Madison, Gramercy Tavern, Union Square Cafe, The Modern, Tabla and Blue Smoke.
Two restaurants that are always open on Christmas Day are the well-known Sea Grill at Rockefeller Center (with a view of the skating rink) and Cibo, a very nice neighborhood restaurant, on the corner of 2nd Av. & 41st St. Both offer special Christmas Day menus.
As we get closer to that season of the year, a good source of information is OpenTable, which will have a list of restaurant that are serving on Christmas Day.

Since we haven't had a Christmas since 2006, it's not surprising that the posts date back to Christmas 2006, no?

True, but I'm trying to look ahead - and I thought New Yorkers might know what is usually open each Christmas.

One of the best holiday meals that I have ever experienced was dinner at the Plaza...Too bad that can't happen anymore...
