RUMOR: Cafe Scaramouche closing
My friend, who lives across the street from this place, was in there this past weekend for its "Flea Market". When he asked if they were closing, the woman behind the counter said that the space had been purchased by "the Blue Water Grill folks" (I assume that means B.R. Guest) and that they would be moving and focusing on their wholesale business.
While I never was a fan of their coffee, they made amazing Argentine alfajores and their empanadas weren't half bad, either. It was a nice, homey place that seemed a bit threadbare, but overall it was a real place with some heart.
Does anyone have any idea what B.R.Guest would do with a place like that? Maybe a small outpost of Dos Caminos? It's in a bizarre part of the nabe with little foot traffic.

This shouldnt come as a shock to anyone as the store was listed for sale in the winter I believe on Corcoran. I came accross the listing and was struck by how familiar the facade looked and realized that is was the Cafe. Oh well. I had no idea they made alfajores.

That is sad news - my husband and I bought 100 of their alfajores for our wedding and they were a hit! Hopefully, even after they close the store, you can still get their alfajores at Dean and Deluca.
