Meaza ethiopian re-opening
Meaza, called "the best Ethiopian restaurant in Northern Virginia", closed a year or so ago - it was in a sad little strip mall on Columbia Pike, now demolished.
I drove by another shabby little strip mall two blocks away from the old location, once home to a decent and friendly kabob place (wonder what happened to those guys) - it was being turned into a single very large space, and a banner proclaimed that it would be the new home of "Meaza Ethiopian Restaurant - Cafe - Market". No word about when, but workmen there are busy as bees.
The new loc is 5700 Columbia Pike.

Sounds like great news! Thanks for the update.

Was that the kabob place (Kabob Express, I think) that always smelled kine of funny? I think they're now in the shopping center on Wilson Boulevard just past 7 Corners, across from the Eden Center. Smelling better there, too, but the chicken kabob I had there a month or so ago was kind of dry.
I went into Meaza once and thought it was so-so, at least to my American taste. Probably a little too homey and less fancy (I'd consider Etete and Meskeren "fancy"). It was where all the cab drivers in the area would go for lunch.
And also in that neighborhood, I see that Joe's is becoming what I gather is a chicken place, something-de-Coco. I can never remember the name on the banner when I drive past it long enough to try to look it up when I get home. And a temporary Dogfish banner is up to replace the Uno sign at the 7 Corners site.
Changes, changes.
