Za, Arlington - review

Another satisfying dinner at Za. Smoked duck pizza off the specials board was fantastic: smoked duck, thinly-sliced apricots, caramelized onions, gorgonzola, scallions and thyme. (This will be available for awhile, we are told.) Portabella pizza and tomato, mozzarella, homemade sausage and roasted garlic pizza also very good. Started with arugula salad with strawberries, feta and pignoli. I requested no strawberries and my very protective friend made a big deal about my strawberry allergy – the waitress let us know they have an elaborate protocol for dealing with allergy issues and sure enough, the manager brought my salad personally and assured me of its strawberry-less-ness. And that brings me to what we love most about Za: the warm, hospitable, personable service. They truly treat you as a most welcome guest in their establishment – we always leave marveling at how many more upscale establishments come nowhere near this level of hospitality.
