I had the banana pudding at Love at First Bite in North Berkeley the other day and thought it was great. They were pre-made in a glass pan and kept in the fridge, and the staff "scoops" out a serving from the pan when you order it. Here's a description from the menu: "real Nilla O wafers layered with bananas, vanilla pudding and whipped cream."
Even though I'm not a big fan for bananas, I enjoyed the pudding and thought the banana flavor was pretty intense. The vanilla pudding was creamy and somehow tasted banana-y too (I thought it was banana pudding initially), and the wafers were soft and moist. I just wished there was more pudding, but I have a thing for all things custardy/pudding-like. Overall, the banana pudding wasn't too sweet and I really recommend it.
For $4 a serving, the banana pudding isn't exactly cheap, but I prefer this to their cupcakes (or maybe I didn't have many vivid childhood memories related to cupcakes.) I once had their Chocolate Razzle cupcake ($2.50 each), "Guittard chocolate cupcakes frosted with raspberry buttercream, made with fresh raspberries." Although you could really taste the flavor of the raspberries, the frosting was literally toothachingly sweet that I didn't even want to finish it ... and that's saying something since I usually finish all my desserts. The cupcake was chocolatey and fairly moist, but was slightly on the greasy side. The cupcake was very VERY pretty though ... mmm, maybe that was why I got it in the first place.
On another note, my mum enjoyed their rugelaches ($2.50) which were filled with cranberries, cherries, pecans and walnuts. I am also tempted to try their blueberry bread pudding ($4.50), "challah soaked in custard with dried and fresh blueberries," though I've never seen it before. Has anyone tried it? And any other recommendations?
