There is a new article about Helsinki restaurants in today's NY Times. Some of the restaurants commented on are old favorites (which I have been lucky enough to have eaten in), some of them relatively new but already established, and some new establishments.
There is -and has been for years and years - lots of super talented chefs in Helsinki - and also many highly skilled chefs willing to take a risk and open their own restaurants.
Since there has been (and still is) so much stereotypical (and plainly silly) thinking about Finnish cuisine - thinking that is based on absolutely no knowledge but that has despite that somehow managed to transform itself into "knowledge" (sigh) - I could not help but laugh out loud when I read the "spot on" beginning of this article.
It is clearly time for us to go back to Helsinki.
