Thanks to hound recommendations three of us went to Xiomara in Pasadena last Saturday night. We had plans that required a 6 P.M. reservation. We were surprised to see quite a few diners there already.
Started off with the outstanding Mojitos made with freshly squeezed cane syrup. Looking around at our fellow diners that seemed to be the drink of choice. We didn't even look at the wine list - a first.
For Primeros we had and shared, Nueveo Cubano Salad a refreshing combination of tomatoes, avacados, watercress and fresh hearts of palm, Paella Risotto Cake on Lobster Creole Sauce that was very nice, the standout winner was the Bacalaito, gingered codfish fritters with a sweet pepper-mango dipping sauce that had us fighting over the last morsel.
For Segundos we had the dramatically presented Spicy Lamb Shank in Crust Sealed Cast Iron Casserole with pureed taro root and marinated tomatoes. We liked this especially when spooned over the marinated tomatoes. We tried the Seared Pork Hash and Yuca Frita with fried cassava, black bean jus and plantains. Lovely flavors, probably the groups favorite. The Cubayucatan Swordfish was well prepared but didn't have the WOW power of the other selections.
Too full for dessert we order one to share anyway. :-D
The Tres Flancitos was a nice way to end the meal. We want to thank those who recommended Ximara!
