After being spoiled by Hong Kong's authentic wonton noodles during the early part of this year, I haven't had a bowl of this comfort food in TO for at least three months! A couple of days ago, the father of a friend of mine suggested that I should give ' V2 Noodles and snacks' at unit 21, First Markam place a try, if and when I have such craving!
Well, I had a bowl at V2 this evening and was pleasently surprised! IMO, this outfit operates in the same manner as Tsim Chai Kee on Hwy#7. However, menu choices are much more varied.
Quality, degree of fineness and chewiness of the noodles is undoubledly the BEST Toronto has to offer. The wonton morsels unfortunately are of the 'giant golf ball size' rather than the traditional dainty varietal. However, seasoning and crunchiness of the large prawns filling was excellent. As for the broth, I could detect the flavour of budha fruit and roasted tile fish. However, overall flavour can be made a bit more intense. Still pretty good though. Only negative part was the ommission of yellowing chives as the traditional condiments. The chopped scallions substitute simply was not the same! Overall a commendable 8 out of 10. ( assuming Hong Kong's Mak's version is a 10 )
Though not perfect, but to have something like this in Toronto is kind of a blessing to us Chinese comfort food loving foodies!
