We just took my 80 year old mom to a traditional, English, afternoon tea...at Ana Beall's Tea Room in Westfield:
It was great! Tea, of course was wonderful. We had the full "afternoon tea." Not cheap, but worthwhile, $18 a person. Just lovely finger sandwiches (cucumber, curried chicken salad, more), great scones and four wonderful little desserts, including just about the best cream puff I've ever tasted and just about the best rice pudding I have ever tasted.
Atmosphere (we were in one of the upstairs rooms) just absolutely lovely.
If you are a perfectionist, it is not the full, perfectly elegant presentation of a high tea...but
just great. By that I mean the wait staff are just local teens. They do a very nice job, but they are, after all, just teens.
Anyway, I never thought I would have a real afternoon tea. And it was just, absolutely wonderful.
