A wonderful dinner at Destinee

Well, after much help from this group, I honed in on Destinee, on 61st street betw. Madison and Park, for a romantic near-plaza dinner. I am certain it was the best possible choice. This is a small, romantic, beautifully decorated French restaurant, with a prix fixe dinner menu at $55. For the quality of the food, service, and ambiance, this certainly feels like a bargain. The food itself is explosively flavorful - I had a crabmeat and tomato napoleon to start, and Alex, my lovely date, had a stunning Lobster gazpacho. Both were exciting in every bite. Main courses - me: tuna in a tomato and olive recuction, she: halibut topped with chopped mushrooms in a balsamic sauce - both divine. And dessert: honey souflee with earl grey ice cream, and an assortment of six creme brulees (thyme, coriander, cinnamon, vanilla, orange, anise). There really was no miss the entire evening, and the service was sincere, attentive, and most of all, warm. It was really a magic evening. Last year, for a real splurge on her birthday we went to Le Bernardin, and I can honestly say that in every respect (including food) this was a more wonderful experience. Give it a try!
