Wondee Siam: Second Visit and Strategy (long)

So i went there today for lunch and tried out more extreme and ridiculous tactics to try to get elusive "Thai spicy" dishes without going to Woodside:

1) When i walked in, i responded to their "Hello"'s with "Sawat dee khrab" [Thai hello, the male version --the female version is "Sawat dee khaaa"]...happy smiles and Thai greetings in return...so far so good...

2) i actually, very slightly "wai'd" with the hello (that small Thai bow, with hands clasped into prayer mode)...so far so good, although i felt a bit silly...*grin*...

3) i asked immediatedly for the Thai menu...now, the first time i went there, they translated it for me in its entirety, but this time, my Thai schtick backfired, because the elder of the two waitresses/managers brought me the Thai menu, but then added "You read Thai?"...Me: "Ehh, no"...and she sort of whisked it away and refused to translate more than a little bit of it, and steered us toward lunch specials on the regular menu...

4) i belabored the point that my friend and i both wanted "Thai spicy", that i go to Sripraphai regularly, and travel in Asia...

5) i promised that under no circumstances would i send my dish back if it was too hot...

Result: The country-style curry w/ chicken was indeed quite hot, though nowhere near as subtle and wonderful as the (even hotter) one i had at Sripraphai recently...it did have lots of yummy vegetables (squash and califlower and red peppers) but could have used a bit more chicken (though acceptable i suppose for a 6.50 lunch special)...my friend had the ground chicken w/ basil which also came fairly spicy but i found that dish a little bland overall (although it had a great deal of chicken)...fish cake appetizer was good as before...

Overall: A perfectly decent lunch, but still far from being a destination restaurant: just somewhere to go if you happen to be in the area or live around there...
