I just sampled some of the best BBQ I've had north of Virginia. Its a new place in Hatfield, MA just north of Northampton on Routes 5&10 just off I-91. Its called HOLY SMOKES and is situated in a former Lutheran Church.
I had beef ribs and they were extremely tasty and tender with an almost carmelized/smokey glaze. WOW! My wife had 1/2 rack of pork ribs and they were spicy and smokey. Really fine. My son had the smoked whole hog and it was a little too funky and gamey for his taste and had no crispy skin that would have made it better.
The sides were memorable; exceptional baked beans with lots of roasted onion bits mixed in, fresh grilled veggies, mac & cheese made w/ 3 cheeses, and excellent fries.
They serve sweet and unsweet iced tea, lemonade, and rootbeer. Didn't see any beer/wine so I'd bring my own just in case.
Finally, a top-notch BBQ in western New England! I was so tired of mediocre BUB'S in Sunderland, not impressed with the over-reaching CECIL'S in Northampton, and totally turned off by the overrated/tasteless CURTIS BBQ in Putney.

Now, if we can only get vietnamese and tapas restaurants around here..
