Went to Willow . . .

even though I had not heard great things. Bottom line--ugh. When I walked in, a staff member at the hostess stand turned his back to me to talk with another staff member. I stood there, with both of them ignoring me, until the person behind the stand finally interrupted a phone call and seated me. The waiter came, I ordered, asked for water, no water. Busboy finally poured after a few pointed glances and a mumbled attempt to explain that they had "three kinds of water."

On to the food: ricotta and zucchini fritters were too sweet and lemony by themselves, and overwhelmed by the sauce. Salad next: orange slices tasted like they had been retrieved from a vat, hearts of palm had no flavor, dressing had some kind of sweet orange essence flavor, supposedly manchego cheese had little flavor, lettuce was nothing interesting. When I asked for bread, I received one reheated roll (which was OK) with no butter or anything else. I was still hungry and didn't want to take the time to go somewhere else, so I ordered the roasted pear for dessert. It was on "blue cheese creme fraiche," which was some kind of salty cream with chunks of blue cheese. It was OK with the pear. The tart shell underneath was soggy and salty. Sorbet was OK, but not much flavor and a nice chunk of ice in the middle. As I was getting ready to go, two of the servers started fighting with each other right behind me. I'm just glad I didn't bring anyone else.
