Wild Chicken in Fairfax

Surprise! It's not a Chinese restaurant! This evening I stopped by at the recently-opened Wild Chicken on Lee Hwy in Fairfax (just near the intersection with 236, in the back of the shopping center opposite the Cingular store). Wild Chicken is yet another Peruvian-style chicken place, with a menu limited to whole chicken, half chicken, quarter chicken and chicken sandwiches (and of course the usual sides--yuca, french fries, and salad).

With a menu this limited, you would hope they would know what they're doing, and it turns out this is the case. The chicken tonight had a wonderful flavor throughout, including a nicely-spicy coating on the skin. The sauces supplied with the chicken (one a hot-ish green sauce, the other basically mayonnaise) were fine, if unexciting. The yuca was also very nicely done, and very similar to the yuca at the only other place I have had it, Crisp & Juicy in Arlington.

The price for a whole chicken with (lousy) salad and a side of yuca or french fries is $11.75.
