Thanks for all the input I saw here and in other places about the White Horse Tavern in NEWPORT RHODE ISLAND. I took my husband there for one of those milestone birthdays. I struggled between WHT and Spiced Pear, but he said he wanted old and cozy instead of new and hip.
At any rate, the dinner was fine, the service was good, the wine list first rate, and the food was tasty. All in all, good but not great. Highlights? The atompsphere and service were not too much or too little. Lowlights? Nothing about it was over the top or truly elegant (especially the bathrooms...) The servers uniforms were ill fitting, I did not see one fresh flower in the whole place.
I tried the butter paoched lobster after reading reviews here -- again, good, but not great. The sauces were lovely.
Mind you I was not dissappointed, just wanted something more.
