West Chester: Trattoria Alberto

While I wouldn't recommend driving 35 miles from CC PHilly just to have superb NOrthern Italian food, if you find yourself near West Chester,(main drag, 122 E Gay St.) lunch here was quite a find. Dinner prices were quite reasonable for the quality.

I chose Rigatoni Boscaiola, which was described as tube shape pasta with sausage and wild mushrooms, for $8.95. I didn't want to finish it, but I did. I didn't expect to be blown away by so ordinary a dish. Let me try to describe. Flavor balance between sausage, wild mushrooms, tomatoes and spicing was sublime. One spice I could detect was fennel in the sausage. Just enough, fairly thick sauce, to accompany the al dente rigatoni.

Bliss. Felt like an Italian trattoria, not Pennsylvania variety. Nice decor; nice service, but admitedly, I was the only customer.
