This goes by many names: Weiss Beer, Hefe Weizen, Belgian White, etc. It is the fruity/funky beer that if it is bottled, still has some yeast in the bottle.
Dchow in the floating rock thread was commenting on finding Julius Echter at Martignettis. JE is one of my favorites.
Stagger brought a really excellent Weiss beer to the Asia Garden veggie banquet. It was in one of those champagne bottles and I believe was from Chimay which is brewed by Belgian Trappist monks.
Are there other Weiss beer fans out there?
My all time favorite used to be brewed in Texas and was called Celis White. Alas, I believe it was Zeb who said they were bought out and folded.
Locally there is UFO (unfiltered offering) from Harpoon, but it does not quite have the fruity funkiness of the best. There is also Brew Moon which is similar to UFO.
A few places in town have Tucher Hefe Weizen, which is pretty tasty, on tap: Sunset Grill in Brighton, and, I just found out that Cigar Masters which recenly moved from Newbury to Boylston carries it.
Any other tasty Weiss beer in Boston leads out there?
