Thanks to all for the suggestions for dining with 10 and 12 year old girls this past weekend. Thank goodness for the folks at Chowhound.
We started Friday night at the 50th & 9th Ave Grand Sichuan. Adults and children were well pleased with our choices. However, my 10 year old was slightly insulted with the waiter assumed that she'd want her dish served with mild spices! The only down note was that the egg roll was slightly cool on the inside. Maybe the oil was too hot and it browned before the inside was fully warm.
We had planned to take the girls to Serendipity 3 for lunch on Saturday after a stop at Dylan's Candy Bar. But the line was out the door....IN THE POURING RAIN! So we made a snap decision to cross the street and duck into Patsys. The kids loved their pasta and the moms were thrilled with the white pizza.
For dinner on Saturday we went for an early dinner at Sevilla in the Village (after a recommendation on a much older thread). The staff were incredibly kind to the kids and made wonderful suggestions (like that the entrees were so big the girls should share one). I've been dreaming about the Mariscada in Green Sauce ever since we left. The pitcher of sangria was perfect.
For Sunday brunch we headed to Balthazar. Our kids enjoyed the lively Sunday morning atmosphere and loved their dishes of French toast and Beef Strogonoff. I saw sligtly disappointed in the blandness and simplicty of my crepes. I don't think I'd recommend it for children much younger than 8-9, however due to the tight space.
Again, thanks to the wonderful resource of Chowhound in planning such a terrific culinary weekend that even a couple of younger girls could appreciate.
