Just a note from a REALLY impressed diner...
The weekend buffet at Minerva in Fairfax - I had heard (from y'all) that the offerings were spicier on weekends, and from the (few) unused steam-table slots on weekdays I guessed that there might be a little wider variety on weekends.
I want you to know:
I don't really care about "spicier," I assume that a restaurant spices dishes as the chef believes a dish should be spiced - but the VARIETY! Some of the "crowd-pleasers" like Butter Chicken were gone, replaced by dishes I not only didn't recognize ... I didn't even recognize the INGREDIENTS - and every one (save a dry and nondescript chicken) a pure delight!
And the price: Weekdays $9.50 (an even $10 with tax) - I was prepared to pay $15 on the weekend, but no ... just a buck and a half more ($10.95)!!! How do you beat it?
And a word about the service. I use a rolling walker (carrying a plate in one hand and a cane in the other with people moving about on either side is a BAD IDEA for me) - every time I go to Minerva, they manage to find not only the closest table for me ... they seem to have already thought out which corner of the table I need to sit at to avoid bumping into people. That's a note for the other "crips" among us, but it says something about the staff - and they are always JUST ATTENTIVE ENOUGH.
