I guess when you're one of the few places on the peninsula that offers waterfront dinning, the food isn't the main attraction.
Dark and stormy - One of my favorite (alcoholic) drinks, yet this was very weak on the liquor.
Seared yellow fin tuna (appetizer): Tuna was bland (very tough to do), d the dipping sauce was off the mark - more sweet than savory. There was a light overtone of soy sauce, however I think the Asian influence in this dish came from region where ketchup is put on take out chinese.
Crab dip with assorted crackers (appetizer): The crab dip tasted very similar what you can get from the grocery store - very heavy on the mayonnaise, with a small sprinkling of Old Bay seasoning on top. In fact, they could have passed it off as ham salad in both taste and color and they could have fooled me. The crackers were good; however, they came straight out of the grocery store aisle (they all were in the shape of butterflies).
Shrimp and grits (main dish): The Charleston specialty. This dish consisted of shrimp, andoullie sausage, shrimp, grits, brown gravy, and very few red bell pepper pieces. The grits were instant and bland, and everything else was overpowered by the gravy, which I am pretty sure came out of a can.
The service was prompt, probably because it was 5:30 PM on a Monday evening. However I had three different waiters stop by my table during the course of my meal, which I am not a fan of. Are they all hoping that I'll tip each of them individually? I was eating alone, which most times means that I am not looking for the company of the staff. If I was, I'd probably be sitting at the bar.
Overall, not a worthwhile experience (and I am usually pretty positive). I wasn't expecting much, but I did have a gift card from Christmas burning a hole in my pocket. If you are looking for a cocktail hour with harbor views, this might be the place for you, but I highly recommend taking a trip down to East Bay Street for your meal.
