Some words of warning about Cubano's in Silver Spring followed by some recommendations (the food is good so you should try it despite these warnings):
The restaurant closes at 9:00 - strange for a restaurant in downtown Silver Spring right near two great movie theaters. Shouldn't they keep up with the times?!
Cubano's is often out of basic items, like cream for coffee/tea (they have milk), decaf. coffee, any tea at all, the cilantro aioli that comes with the ham croquettes appetizer which is very good, and the famous Cuban Coffee.
The service is erratic. Sometimes they are quite slow, other times I've felt very hurried, as if they are not quite subtly telling me that they're closing down and want me to leave. Also, I've often had a waiter who, while nice, seems like he barely understands English.
Good points and recommendations:
Free parking around the corner, behind the restaurant.
Recommended dishes: Ham croquettes appetizer with cilantro aioli, Empanadas appetizer, the appetizer assortment (good with a group of people), the Ropa Vieja entree (shredded beef in a garlic sauce with bell peppers), sliced chicken with onions and bell peppers, Macitas de Puerco (cubed pork marinated in oranges and garlic), flan, and Pastel Tres Leches cake.
