A walker in the city

I'm a big NYC walker and love to discover places before they hit NY Mag or Time Out. Well, last night I'm walking along a desolate street on West 26th Street and on the same block I find a wine store that specializes in wines only from France and Oregon. They've been in business for about 15 years but only recently moved to W. 26th Street. I go in and am offered some tastes of wine from France. Ummm, very good. They tell me they only stock wines that they've personally tasted from their travels. I think this is a good thing. I'm going back.

Now I'm on West 26th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues and pass a bar called the Black Door. The name intrigues me. How long has this place been around on this dreary street? I look in and I feel like I'm watching a movie. Very happy-go-lucky people look like they're having a terrific time. People sitting at the bar are chatting away; as much as I hate cigarettes, I love the way some guy blows smoke rings into the air. It looks so much out of a French B movie. People everywhere look like they're having a good time from the street. I make a mental note that I must go back there. Have you been?

Geez - I love New York!
