Waikiki (Hotel) Restaurants That Locals Enjoy

Bill Hunt's love of La Mer inspired me to start this thread. I've never been to La Mer (or Halekulani for a long time), but I've been to several restaurants that are in Waikiki hotels, and, for the most part, I found them disappointing. The food wasn't bad, but the meals seemed overpriced. Also, some of the places (like Matteo's or Longhi's) seem like 70's restaurants (i.e. menu locked in the 70s, not very creative).

Here are some other places I've been to:

Sarento's (OK, but seemed overpriced.)
Top of Waikiki (when Sean Priester(?) was there)
Ciao Mein (good, but really small portions and pricey)
Both buffet places at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel (The Japanese one has a solid Thursday special deal.)
Kai Market (good seafood buffet on Friday)
Michel's (nice view, but menu kinda boring; food just OK)
The restaurant at the top of Ala Moana Hotel. Food was good, but, again, seemed a little too expensive.

There may be other places...Oh, I went to the Indian restaurant across from the Ilikai (OK; I prefer Maharani's).

Honestly, I like the chain restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and Red Lobster (the latter would do great business with locals if it weren't in Waikiki).

So what are some places that are worth checking out? Are there places that other locals like to visit often?
