Visit to Le Margaux

UnConundrum | Nov 5, 2003 10:00 PM

We stopped in to Le Margaux(371 rue Villeneuve Est. 289-9921) Tuesday night and we were quite impressed. First off, they had a Foie Gras appetizer for $14. It wasn't "quite" the carmelized treat offered by Toque, but it was twice the size, and worth ever penny, and then some. You have a choice of soup or salad with your main course, so both my wife and I opted for the soup (it was a miserable freezing rain night). That night the soup was French Onion (I have no idea if this changes) which we thought was great. My wife ordered the rabbit, which was boneless and stuffed with potatoes, prunes, and grapes, and served with a wild blueberry sauce which she raved about. I ordered pan seared trout where one piece of trout was positioned on top of a risoto like starch. That piece of trout was topped with some apples, asparagus, another wonderful sized piece of foie gras, and another piece of trout. Devine... For desert we tried a piece of ricotta cheese cake which I enjoyed and we took a piece of chocolate cake home for our son. Wines are not our strong suit, so we just ordered a liter of the house red which we enjoyed. The total bill, INCLUDING TAX, came to only $98. We couldn't believe it. This is truly a gem worth a try :)
