Hi. Was just making a 10 day round-trip from Boston to Charleston with a friend of mine and found 3 great places. The first was in Virginia Beach on 22nd street near the ocean. We were looking for all you can eat seafood but since most places were closed for the season we went to a quaint looking place on a side street and it turned out to be mexican food. The name of the place is "Lunasea" a take off on lunacy I guess and the place was fantastic. I had a lobster and corn chowder (it was a special for the night but they should put it on the menu all the time) and it was fabulously seasoned with mexican spices and loaded with sweet corn and chunks (CHUNKS) of lobster! Next I had crab cakes (an appetizer) that was big (two 3 1/2 inch cakes) made with real crabmeat (I hate the fake stuff) and virtually no filler like bread crumbs. It needed a little exotic sauce on the top but I didn't complain because the flavor was very nice. My friend had a mexican mussel appetizer and a main course I can't recall now but she was VERY happy with her meal. My only complaint was that she kept dipping HER spoon in MY chowder. We were too full for desert. The staff was very friendly. There is live entertainment upstairs (we didn't go). I'm worried because the place was so deserted (in the hour or more we were there only two other people came in to eat). It would be a shame if this place isn't well attended on a regular basis and that's what made me write here. I even bought a hat from the place because I liked the logo (a moon over the sea, Luna-sea). I don't remember the cost of the meal but heck I'll pay almost anything for a great meal.
In Charleston, SC try "Vickery's". A diverse menu, reasonable prices considering the amount of food they feed you, the quality and flavor was excellent. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
In Fancy Gap, NC (near the Blue Ridge Parkway) try the "Lakeview" (anyone in the town can direct you). I had blackened fresh trout, hushpuppies, sweet-potatoe casserole, fried okra and a diet coke for under 10 dollars. The best regional "home-cooking" around according to the locals. The fish was very fresh and cooked/seasoned perfectly (watch the bones!).
