I work in Chicago each week, and my boyfriend is flying down to join me for a weekend. We have eaten plenty of Indian food in Toronto (particularly on Gerrard St.) -- some great, some not so great. But I have always heard that the Devon area in Chicago has better options.
His absolute favourite dish, and really the only that matters (in this case), is vindaloo -- chicken, beef or lamb. So, I am looking to take him to Devon, to check out Chicago's Indian neighbourhood.
Of utmost importance is that they spice it as we request it -- he likes his food insanely spicy, and gets quite irritated when Indian restos underspice our meal, even though we request extra extra spicy, because we are not Indian and they assume we may not be able to handle it.
So... who makes the best vindaloo in Chicago? I am looking for a spicy sauce, and non-scary meat (e.g. no rubber chicken or gristly beef). BYOB is preferred, but not required.
