Village Smokehouse

Village Smokehouse in Brookline. Just had dinner there and wanted to share my thoughts. To say I was disapointed is an understatement! Why is this place so popular? The BBQ is neither southern nor Texan. They have Texas on the t-shirts and the walls but they forgot to put it in the food!
The brisket was nothing like I've had before. More like sliced beef than the slow-cooked delicacy I'm used to. Dry with some type of sugary BBQ sauce.
The sausage was not spicy (as advertised)and not very flavorful.
The jalapeno poppers were made with fresh jalapeno (instead of the marinated variety) and not even a little hot. They had no flavor to speak of.
The only pork ribs they serve are the babyback variety (i.e. "Chili's"), not the full size pork ribs you get in Texas.
Here's the worst thing: The beans were New England baked beans! I have nothing against NE Beans (in fact I like them a lot) but this is a BBQ place!
My beef here (sorry for pun) is that they advertise to be Texas BBQ and there is NOTHING about the food there reflective of Texas BBQ. It's really mediocre for New England BBQ for that matter.
I'll stick with Redbones and Blue Ribbon. Am I being too hard on these guys?
