A long time ago -- when I was a young aspiring chowhounder -- there was a little place in Chinatown called Bun Bo Xao that served a phenomenal bowl of "Bun" (vietnamese rice noodles with various toppings). It has long since closed, and admittedly I have never been able to find Bun that good again.
It seems like Pho Hung is the popular favorite for Bun these days, but I find their version to be somewhat mediocre. Not enough vegetables; certain key items missing (ie., in my view there should be both mint and basil in a good bun); an insufficent number of peanuts; the weaknesses continue.
Does anyone have recommendations? Suggestions in the downtown area are preferred, but for the right bun I would venture out into the 'burbs...
