So, been in Victoria a bit now and am finding some holes in my research I'd like filled. Just for reference, we've had very good luck so far at Red Fish Blue Fish, Ferris' Oyster Bar, and Choux Choux. Also liked Chocolat. After having our reservations request at L'Ecole shot down for tomorrow night, we were able to secure a 9pm reservations for tonight. Whew! Are still trying to decide between Brio and Zambri's for our last dinner tomorrow before a trip up to the gardens and fireworks.
So we have one meal to truly figure out: Saturday lunch. I'm thinking Japanese/Sushi just to get away from Europe for a meal. Figure there should be some fresh fish available and Vancouver have such a fantastic Japanese dining scene that hopefully there's some spill-over or at least people will have educated palates from visits to the mainland.
Not looking for value. Looking for quality. Sushi would be good, but we also love ramen, soba, udon, yakimono, karaage, etc -- even fusiony sushi and izakaya standards if they're done well. Places that make their own broths and noodles clearly move up in our estimation.
I've seen these recommended, but without much detail:
- Sen zushi
No clue if any of them are truly good or just worthwhile if you have a hankering for sushi that nothing else will sate. No clue what they specialize in. No clue if there's something better.
So, the only bust we've had on the trip so far was after Ferris' we wanted something sweet because their dessert menu was boring. The only gelato place open on the trip back to our car was Oh Gelato. It looked questionable, so we just split an overpriced, tiny $6 cup of crappy gelato. Icy with flavors that tasted like they came from a vial. Any good places for gelato or ice cream in town?
