For the chows out there:
We recently returned from a trip to the Gulf Islands (Salt Spring) and Vancouver Island and had the pleasure (or not) of eating at some of the recommeded places on this site.
The Do's - On Salt Spring Island our pick is House Piccollo. I believe the two chefs are from Poland and the the excutive chef from Finland. Wow! The sable fish and herring were wonderful, so was the service. All of this on a Sunday night
Salt Spring Vinyard B and B. Wonderful people, great room above the Vinyard and reasonable price for fresh fruit and pastries and fresh oj.
Deep Cove. Another wow! Wonderful view of the bay and the multicourse diners are delightful and well worth the drive. Every course was melt in our mouth great.
The Don'ts- Brentwoodbay's Artubus Grill. Slow service, overpriced wines, and very average food but a huge bill. Don't stay there either we found that the hotel was very similar to the kitchen both overprice for a very average stay.
The OK's- Brasserie L'ecole. We went there on many recommendations only to find it very average. It wasn't bad, but just not great. Their signature of steak and frits was very average especially the steak. Their french onion soup also average. Their pasta with short ribs was alright but not filled with flavor.
