Vancouver: The good, the bad and the UGLY(Cipriano's)

First off, I'll clarify the heading; there wasn't any bad, but there sure was an UGLY. We stayed in a couple of different B&Bs in the area of King Edward and Main Streets, and found this neighborhood (neighbourhood?)to be rich in good eating. The UGLY was Cipriano's, on Main St. near 23rd. It had been suggested by one of our hosts, and on entering, appeared to be just a garden variety, neighborhood Italian restaurant. After waiting a couple of minutes for someone to seat us, we were approached by a rather surly guy who responded to my question of room for two more by answering "we're full". I asked if we could wait, as it appeared someone was ready to leave, and he then asked "do you have a reservation?". After my answer of no, he again said "we're full", not in a friendly way, but in a very gruff, negative way. We're an older, non-threatening white couple, no different from those already seated, so his attitude couldn't have been based on minority status. I would certainly NEVER recommend that place, and have passed the info on to our hosts for local dissmenation. The GOOD about Vancouver will be posted separately.
