Update on Gene's Diner Recommendation

hi all!

I took the board's suggestion for Gene's Diner on Montrose for seafood.

We showed up at 6:30 on a Thursday night and were seated immediately. The decor was casual - tables were well spaced.

The specials board was all fish and the menu contained standard diner fare. A big plus was that breakfast is served all day long. I am one of those odd ones that love pancakes for dinner.

Started with the brushetta with pesto, tomatoes, and smoked ham. This was tasty but very salty. We also ordered the house salad. Avoid the house salad, out of a bag and a bit old at that.

The birthday boy ordered the potato crusted halibut. I am not a fish fan so I ordered the grilled vegetable sandwich with a side of potato salad.

The fish was good but was totally overwhelmed by the potato crust. The description of a fish latke was accurate. BF loved it...and decided that we needed to come back to try other options on the fish menu. The crab cakes and trout looked good.

My veggie sandwich was openfaced and included a heavy coating of provolone cheese. Next time less cheese as the veggies were delicious. The potato salad was your basic - nothing inspiring.

I recommend this diner for breakfast junkies and fish fans. Check it out.
