Underrated: Joe's Pizza

Jim Leff | May 10, 2011 04:51 PM

Had a slice at Joe's Pizza (the one on the Carmine Street triangle near Bleecker and 6th) last night, then immediately got a second slice. I told the friend I was with that I felt like I could just keep ordering more and more slices infinitely. This has always been one of the better slices in town (though was overrated for a few years due to its high-traffic location), but at this point I really feel it deserves inclusion in the pantheon. They've started getting this smokey delectability that reminds me of Patsy's in its prime (back when Jose worked the oven).

The 1980's style gruff counter guys and fast cooking/serving/paying pace just add to the legendary-ness of it all.
