Uncle Frank's BBQ in Mountain View

So after reading many posts here, and knowing how close this place is to my work, I was able to convince 3 other coworkers to try Uncle Frank's at lunch today. Based on previous posts, I was prepared for many things, but was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience.

We got there 12:15 (I know, peak time) and I thought we may have to do takeout if it's really crowded. The smells were enticing as we walked thru the bar, and even though we didn't have reservations, the waitress was able to seat us right away. I saw some reserved tables here, but I guess we got lucky.

I wanted to try as many things possible, and between the 4 of us, we got the House Special Beef Brisket, Smoked Chicken, Pork Ribs, and fried Catfish. Since 3 of the items were under the lunch menu, our only side choice was either potato salad or cole slaw, and either mild or 'kick-butt' hot sauce.

I think everything was good, except 1) I would get the sauce on the side next time; the sauce drowns out much of the meat. 2) the 'kick-butt' sauce was NOT spicy at all; it looked like both mild and hot used the same molasses base, but the hot had pepper flakes or something. Not my favorite sauce. 3) The cole slaw was not that great; it had chunks of white looking pineapple, and didn't have any flavor.

The brisket was excellant (sans sauce next time); the chicken was very good (not too dry); I didn't get a chance to try the ribs, but my favorite was the catfish!! It had a cornmeal coating that was still hot and crunchy from the fryer, but the fish was still tender and firm (almost like steamed fish when it hasn't been steamed too long) - the fries that it came with were home fries that were kinda addicting. The catfish came with a standard tartar sauce that I didn't use.

Next time I want to try the links and the prawns and I heard the cornbread and collard greens are good too.

BTW, the service was very good - the waitress was very nice and asked us to make sure we got everything.
