OK, on the advice of this board I went and found Uncle Andre's. Not an easy trip for this westsider. I ordered the pulled pork sand, bbq beans, slaw, and hush puppies. It was already 8:30pm, so I was not ready for a slab of ribs.
Well, I hated it. The hush puppies were frozen, generic, and bland.
The beans were bland, served almost cold in a dark thin sauce. not great.
The pulled pork was very different from any I have had anywhere. It was a pink mush of pork. Almost the texture of spam. It spilled over the stale bun and I could not get a piece to fall from the rest. It had no strings, strands, chunks, or lumps. It had absolutely no smoke or wood flavor. It tasted more like a corned beef hash from the can than BBQ. It's what we in the south used to call "crock pot BBQ". I don't think that meat ever saw an open flame or pit. There was a hot sauce on top of the meat, but it tasted like diluted red rooster.
I may give them another shot and try the ribs, but only if I happen to be nearby.
I still say the closest to southern Q around here is Johnny Rebs.
