According to our waiter last night, beginning next year the upper floor of Beyoglu will focus on Turkish seafood mezzes and main dishes. He mentioned specialties of Efes and Izmir, like fish kebabs.
The downstairs will become Beyoglu grill and focus on the existing mezzes and meat/vegetable dishes.
Unfortunately, the existing mezzes menu will shrink to accomodate more and different dishes. The waiter didn't know which dishes would be gone, so hurry and make sure they keep your favourites.
Beyoglu is at 1431 Third Avenue at 81st street, 212-650-0850. Reservations all but required most nights. It's too bad the existing mezzes will be confined to the zoo-like first floor, but hopefully the seafood will make it worthwhile.
If you can't get in to Beyoglu, I highly recommend Uskudar ten blocks over and down at 1405 2nd Avenue (212-988-2641). Great adana kebabs, generous and well-prepared mezzes.
