Turkish food in Santa Rosa

New Turkish/Mediterrean restaurant Real Gyro in West Santa Rosa - 711 Stony Point Road #8A - just off Hiway 12. Though it's in a strip mall, it's attractive, convenient for families, not too loud and the food is delicious. Tried the appetizer combo plate for $8.95. It comes with homemade bread and the usual (hummus, baba ganouj, tabouli, eggplant salad & potato salad) and the unusual (ezme, kisir & piyaz)- yet everything had a fresh new taste. The spinach pie at $2.50 looked typical, but beneath the filo dough was a stack of nicely cooked and flavored greens. The falafel was the best in town and the desserts - traditional pastries & puddings yummy too.

We didn't even get the meat of the menu - gyros & kebabs (adana, kofte, iskender, chicken and lamb)and there are nine other savory pastries to try. Wraps and sandwiches are $5.25-$6.50 and specialty platters are $8.95-$12.95. There's also a big board of drinks, Turkish coffee & tea.

This is a new, family run restaurant. The menu says about the chef, "One of the true masters of Middle Eastern and Eastern Mediterranean Cuisines, Vahit Besir is the chef here at Real Gyro. Over the past 30 years, Vahit has astounded the taste buds of diners in fine restaurants in Turckey, Libya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and here in the United States in New York and San Francisco. From his succulent char-grilled kebabs to his delicious desserts, a meal prepared by Vahit is a meal to remember."

My special interest? I want this place to survive and others to enjoy the delicious food. :)

Phone number 707-535-0999, FAX 707-535-0900 Sorry, I don't know the hours, though they do serve both lunch & dinner.
