My wife and I have many fond memories of the Hermitage restaurant in Clifton. When we heard a new restaurant, Trummer's on Main, had opened in the old Hermitage building we had to try it. Last Tuesday we went for dinner.
Since the outside of the building has not changed we were blown away when we opened the door. The whole place has been redone with many significant changes such as the old center staircase being removed, a wine cellar has been dug, and an onyx topped bar installed. Really did a marvelous job of modernizing the interior.
Now the new food matches the new interior. The chef used to cook at the French Laundry among other jobs. His food shows it. My wife started with the Foie Gras which she proclaimed the best she ever had. I started with cold Oysters in celery water. Different than anything I've ever had and refreshing and tasty. My wife then had Steamed Founder with Asian Vegetables and I had Skate with Mushrooms, both terrific. Skipped desert and sipped our wine after dinner. The new wine cellar has 3000 bottles we were told.
All in all a great experience we will be back soon.
