On the suggestion of many on this board, I boarded the E train and headed out to Jackson Heights, Queens (Roosevelt Avenue station) to check out Fiesta Mexicana. All I can say is that I wish I had a restaurant like this in my neighborhood (i.e., Brooklyn Heights). The food is fantastic and definitely more refined than most Mexican restaurants around town.
I started with a Sopa Campesina (Farmer's Soup on the menu). It has zucchini, corn and small bits of cheese in a creamy soup. Excellent.
My main was the Cochinita Pibil -- marinated roasted pork wrapped in banana leaf. The pork was moist, but not greasy. Another thumbs up with this dish!
My wife had the Enchiladas suiza -- "soft corn tortilla dipped in green tomatilla sauce filled with chicken. This too was excellent.
The portions are quite ample, so we had plenty to bring home with us. I ended with a Banana Licuados -- banana milk shake. By this time, I was in heaven.
