We just returned from the beer and cheese tasting at Tria, which was guided by Garrett Oliver, brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery. All in all, a fun, educational, delicious evening.
Each place was set with a plate of 7 cheeses, and there were shared serving platters of breads, grapes, nuts, honey and a cherry compote. Beers (around 5 oz servings) were brought by the servers. Mr. Oliver described each beer and cheese, and why they made an interesting pairing, such as their matched carmelized tones.
Most notable pairing was the Liefman's kriek, a fruity Flemish brown ale, with a Peluso Teleme, a fresh young creamy cheese.
Service was excellent, with empty glasses cleared briskly, and water glasses and bread baskets refilled quickly. We look forward to future events at Tria.
